Second-cycle engineering studies lasting 3 semesters is an offer addressed to candidates who obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering (first-degree studies). Graduates of Medical Engineering obtain the degree of Master of Engineering.
These are interdisciplinary studies, educating specialists ready to carry out scientific research in the field of medical engineering and experts prepared to provide engineering support to medical personnel in the institutions of the health care system.
Within the field of Medical Engineering, the following specialties are offered:
- Artificial Intelligence in Medical Diagnostics
- Biomechanics
Artificial Intelligence in the Medical Diagnostics specialty constitutes a response to the observed dynamic progress in the medical technologies area concerning the field of imaging diagnostics and digital tools supporting the analysis of a patient's health, as well as to the unprecedented increase in the possibilities of using artificial intelligence algorithms in medical diagnostics. A graduate of this specialty has knowledge and skills in the application of artificial intelligence methods in medicine. Moreover, a graduate can develop and implement IT tools dedicated to the processing and analysis of biomedical data, interpret real-time output from diagnostic apparatus, and design decision-making models in medical diagnostics.
Biomechanics specialty constitutes a response to the growing demand for innovative material and mechanical solutions in medical technologies for orthopedics, prosthetics, and rehabilitation. A graduate of this specialty knows the biomechanics of the human musculoskeletal system, which can be utilized to design prostheses and orthoses, implement reverse engineering tools, and program complex biomechanical control systems.
The offer of these specialties responds to the specific needs of the medical industry – the use of advanced mechanics, widely used simulation methods, and the unprecedented increase in the possibility of using artificial intelligence algorithms in medical diagnostics. Graduating the Medical Engineering, graduate degree studies (second cycle) with a practical profile will enable graduates to work as partners for the medical community in the field of formulating biomedical engineering problems and solving them by modeling, designing, developing technology, and construction using computer techniques. Graduates will acquire competencies enabling them to design and manufacture personalized implants, prostheses, and medical devices cooperating with the human body.
Why is it worth choosing a Medical Engineering curriculum?
- The global labor market needs highly qualified medical engineering staff;
- Employers indicate the need for implementation research and expertise, as well as projects in the field of medical engineering;
- Employers related to medical engineering declare their willingness to employ specialists in the field of medical engineering;
- The curriculum is practical, interdisciplinary and allows for easy adaptation to the current labor market;
- The practical profile guarantees a significant number of practical classes and workshops;
- The offered specialties are adapted to the requirements of the global labor market;
- The lecturers constitute the qualified academic staff with practical experience gained in the medical engineering sector;
- Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa continuously develops teaching facilities;
- Students will have extensive contact with potential employers during classes, study visits, and internships;
- Students have the possibility of taking part in studies at Universities abroad as part of the Erasmus+ program;
- Students can apply for accommodation in a dormitory;
Graduates of second cycle studies with a practical profile in the field of Medical Engineering will be able to take up employment in e.g.:
- enterprises related to design and manufacture of medical devices and equipment, as constructors and designers of rehabilitation devices, prostheses, implants, devices, and medical tools,
- institutions and R&D centers developing medical technology as well as accreditation and attestation bodies for medical devices,
- IT companies involved in developing and implementing tools dedicated to the processing and analysis of biomedical data, in the capacity of programmers, analysts, implementation engineers, and software testers,
- consulting institutions and companies in the medical industry,
- health care facilities, as personnel supporting the selection, proper operation, and supervision of the use of medical equipment,
own manufacturing or service companies in the field of medical engineering
Qualification rules
- Diploma of completion first-cycle biomedical engineering curriculum or another related field of study (a related field of study is the field of study assigned to the engineering and technical sciences) I degree or equivalent ( I degree - Bachelor of Engineering). In particular, the candidate has:
- knowledge in the sciences to understand, formulate, and solve typical engineering tasks,
- knowledge and skills necessary to use computer tools in engineering design,
- knowledge and skills in technical subjects, especially mechanics, material science, and engineering graphics,
- skills in the interpretation, presentation, and documentation of experimental and simulation results and tasks of a design nature.
- Documented knowledge of English at the B2 level. In the absence of documented English language skills, the candidate will be required to undergo an interview in English to verify his/her English language skills (at least at the B2 level).
Candidates are qualified based on competition of graduation diplomas. The Faculty Enrolment Committee makes the final decision within the time limit resulting from the recruitment schedule.
