The primary goal of Music in public space studies is to offer a course which ensures that its graduates acquire qualifications, knowledge, skills, and social competences needed to undertake both an artistic and entrepreneurial activities in the broadly-understood public space, so as to animate musical life and support professional musicians in their public career. Studying Music in public space creates an opportunity for each student’s personal artistic development as well as for promoting their musical talents in public by means of projects and events of their own design. Furthermore, the goal of the study is to enable the graduates to undertake artistic activities in the rapidly-changing social and cultural reality, and organize musical life in both big and small centers, the latter typically having limited access to first-class artistic events. The graduates will be eligible for employment in cultural centers,  institutions, and offices.  The bachelor of arts degree earned in the Music in public space program entitles the graduates to pursue further education in second-degree (postgraduate) studies.


Teaching  activities are conducted in small groups, which enables effective mastering the rules governing the work of music, learn the history of music, including jazz and popular music, as well as enhance auditory skills, learn harmonics, the basics of composing, arrangements, improvisations, etc. Students have an opportunity of individual contact with teachers of various instruments, for example piano, accordion, pipe organ, percussion, guitar and violin. They are also involved in choir conducting and leading instrumental combos. The collaborative work of students and teachers results in various artistic activities: individual performances, concerts of the choir, instrumental ensembles, as well as awards won at competitions in Poland and abroad.

Teaching activities are conducted by artists who perform regularly in many renowned concert halls in Poland and abroad. Every year, the teachers of the department of music publish monographs and scientific articles. The department closely cooperates with the Częstochowa Philharmonic, other cultural institutions of the city and the region, and partner universities abroad.  The Department frequently hosts professors from foreign institutions (including Ukraine, Slovakia, Lithuania, Germany and the USA) who conduct classes with students. Our students regularly take part in international exchange programs.

The graduate of Music in public space earns the bachelor of arts degree.

The graduate of Music in public space  (specialty: : Instrumental performance - Specialisation: piano, guitar, accordion, organ) displays skills of musical interpretation within a given style of performativity. The graduate gains knowledge and skills of performing classical music. In the course of studies, apart from general music preparation, he acquires knowledge and skills in the following areas: initiating and organising cultural events, the basics of voice techniques and improvisation. He also displays the skill of performing and cooperate with various musicians and artists in ensembles. Completion of studies in this speciality prepares students to conduct artistic activity as an instrumentalist or chamber musician in the field of classical music.

The graduate of Music in public space  (specialty: Musical arts animation) is ready to start work as a culture animator. Apart from general music education, the graduate gains knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • organization and management of cultural centres
  • initiating and organising cultural events
  • managing a music agency
  • carrying out artistic projects
  • financing of culture
  • promotion and marketing of cultural goods


The graduate is prepared to work as a manager-animator of musical activities in cultural institutions such as philharmonics, concert halls, cultural centers, music bands and in the media. The graduate is competent to undertake the following tasks: organizing festivals, competitions, music events, training courses, workshops, etc.

The graduate of music in public space, specialty: stage music – specialisation: vocal studies, electric guitar, bass guitar, drum set - is able to perform a diverse vocal and instrumental repertoire in accordance with the appropriate performance style. The graduate has theoretical knowledge and skills of a qualified musician. In the course of studies, apart from general music preparation, he acquires knowledge and skills in the following areas: the basics of conducting, jazz harmony, improvisation and jazz arrangement. He is also trained in the skills of stage movement and dance with choreographic elements, which enable him to undertake individual creative work.
 
The graduate in scope of social competences:

  • is aware of the level of their knowledge and skills; understands the need for life-long professional learning, mastering their skills and personal development,
  • is able to use his imagination, intuition and creative thinking in the process of problem solving,
  • is ready to take up professional challenges
  • is active and persistent in individual and collaborative work in various educational and cultural endeavors
  • knows and understands the basic concepts of intellectual property law
